I saw that the July 2012 DC bar exam results were released last week. 109 successful out of 210 total takers. 71% pass rate for first-time takers and overall pass rate of 52%.
As usual, congrats to those that passed. A hearty congrats to those that passed on their second try (or third, fourth?!). Sticking with it after not being successful in a previous attempt is tough, but the reward is worth it.

R.I.P. MCA (Adam Yauch)
I was saddened by the news yesterday that MCA (Adam Yauch) of the Beastie Boys had passed away due to cancer.
I thumped many a beat to Licensed to Ill back in the mid '80s (yes, that was on a boom box). The Beasties and basketball go hand-in-hand in my memories of bygone days of youth.
The Beasties broke the hip hop mold and brought it more into mainstream white America. Those dudes from Brooklyn sure could rock.
Despite starting out of the gate with a monster smash record, the Boys hung together and stayed relevant for a really long time. Nice work guys and thanks for all the catchy tunes.

History of Release Date for DC Bar Exam Results (Feb 2005 - Feb 2017)
I've been thinking about doing this for a while so here it is.
The dates on the "pass" memo for the DC bar for the last three handfuls of years. These were collected from pass memos, blog posts or comments on this blog so count on a +/- of a day or two depending on when people reported (for those that I didn't actually see the memo):

February 2012 DC Bar Exam Results
As my time with the DC bar exam grows more distant, my interest fades...hence the infrequent posts.
The February 2012 DC bar exam included the following subjects:
MPT: Two letters (one objective and one persuasive)
MEE:
Contracts
Corporations
Evidence
Federal Civ Pro
Partnership
Wills
MBE: As usual, watch for the conversion chart on the California bar site (the only state that provides a correlation between raw and scaled scores).
DC posted (online) the bar results yesterday, 5/1/2012 (letters went out a few days earlier): 110 successful applicants out of 237. 66% pass rate for first-time takers and overall pass rate of 48%
Congrats to those that vaulted high enough to clear the bar. To those that didn't make it this time...go through the stages (disbelief, sadness, rage, dedication, application, joy) to reach your goal next time.

July 2011 DC Bar Exam Results
The July 2011 DC bar exam results were released just before Halloween (October 27, 2011).
96 passed out of 208 that took the exam in July. That translates to a 46% overall pass rate (64% pass rate for first-time takers).
I had a post writen the day after the results were released but got some strange error that caused me to lose it and I was too lazy to recreate it that day. Oh well!
The highlights for the July exam that I did not post after the exam:
Essay topics for July 2011 DC bar exam:
MPT(2) - Two memos (objective and persuasive)
MEE:
Criminal law
Con law
Property
Civ pro
Family law
Commercial paper
MBE: Conversion table for raw to scaled scores is not yet posted by the California bar examiners. Watch for it here in the coming weeks.
Congrats to those that passed. Enjoy the glory. For those that didn't make it, dig out of the pit of despair and regroup. Evaluate what you think went wrong and set a plan for the next go.

Februay 2011 DC Bar Exam
I had no predictions ahead of time. I did have a few requests.
The subjects tested on the February 2011 DC Bar Exam were:
MPT Questions:
Memo (objective)
Memo (objective) and closing argument (persuasive)
MEE Questions:
Evidence
Contracts
Family Law
Wills
Corporations
Civ Pro
Sounds like there were some interesting MBE questions. Glad I don't have to deal with those beasts ever again!
Hopefully everyone is basking in the afterglow of the doneness. It is a great feeling.
